Tactical Buyer

Smart Recruitment is currently recruiting on behalf of a global engineering organisation that has a division of their company based in Crewkerne, Somerset.

We are currently supporting them with seeking a Tactical Buyer for a long term temporary role lasting at least 6 months.

In simple terms, they need someone who can manage the purchase order process from start to finish, ensuring right parts, right time, right place at the right price.  You will assist in managing the production schedule within your designated planning department –including multiple value streams.

They need someone who can:

  • Own the process from ordering to delivery and invoice payment – making sure orders are acknowledged and expedited/deferred in line with production requirements – daily
  • Analyse Supplier forecasts – weekly calls with key suppliers
  • Become an expert using their supplier tracking system, ensuring accurate data is provided to encourage supplier usage.
  • Organise Supplier meetings, hosting if necessary, building relationships internally and externally
  • Understand coding on Vendor Managed Inventory, working with internal colleagues and suppliers to ensure the right parts are added/removed as necessary in a timely manner.
  • Understand the quality systems and PPAP expectations, highlighting any quality concerns immediately to the Supplier Quality Engineer, and support as necessary on Inventory management

You will need to be organised and methodical, with the ability to work to deadlines.

Other qualities required in order to be considered for this role:

  • Ability to continually improve the current processes, eliminate manual processes and non-value adding, automate where possible.  Update standard works as & when necessary by being fully conversant with procurement procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify spend/savings areas
  • Ability to multi-task under pressure
  • Ability to track & manage supplier performance
  • Must be self-driven and a team player
